Current and past incidents the Tiverton Fire Department responds to:

September 12, 2009, 5  alarm Fire believed to be  arson  to the  2  story  brick building  at the  Bourne Mill Complex, Mill Street, fire destroyed the structure awaiting re construction for the  renovation  project. Mutual  aid   from  Portsmouth, Westport Fall River, Somerset,  Warren, Bristol Middletown fire  departments including  the  Providence  Canteen, and  Fall River Special Services and  Lighting  unit were  on  scene.  

On  Sunday afternoon August 3, 2008 Tiverton  Firefighters were  called  to  Stafford  Pond for a  boater  who  fell overboard, While  Tiverton  Firefighters  were  responding to the  scene,  Off duty First  class  Firefighter Gerald  R. Leduc , a 25  year member  of the  Tiverton Fire  Department also  responded  to assist  his  brothers,  Firefighter  Leduc  donned  his  personal  scuba  equipment    and jet ski to the  location  ,  after  several attempts to locate the  submerged boater,  Firefighter  Gerry R. Leduc was  overcome  and   rescued by  his  brothers,  who immediately tried  to  resuscitate  him,  he  was  transported to   St,. Annes Hospital for treatment.  He  passed  away that  evening, Our  sincere condolences to  his  family and  the  entire  Tiverton  Fire  Department. Firefighter Gerry  R. Leduc is  believed  to be  the  first  Line of  Duty  Death  for the  Tiverton Department.

The  week of  April 15 to 19, 2007  brought  a  major  rain and  wind  storm  to  the  New  England  area,  Tiverton Firefighters were kept  busy  assisting  Tiverton  residents  with  removing  water  to  flooded  basements. 

 

Thursday  February 8, 2007  Chief Robert D. Lloyd  and  Engine 2 and  3  companies, and  the  RI  Fire  Marshalls office  were  on detail  at the  demolision of  the  former  Railroad  bridge  crossing under the  Sakonnet  Bridge,  The remaining  pilings and  supports  were demolished  by  the  RI  DOT  to  make  way  for the  New  Sakonnet  Bridge  construction. 

 

Wednesday January 24 , 2007 Tiverton Firefighters responded at 9:33 am to a  Fire  in a  Structure  at  51 Riverview Avenue   Command  was  established  by  Chief  Robert  D Lloyd and a  request of a ladder truck from  Portsmouth  Fire  Dept.  On  arrival,  Building  was  reported  a  3  story  wood  frame  with  smoke showing from the  eaves ,  Firefighters made a  quick  knockdown of  the  fire and  Command  was  terminated at 12:01 pm The  cause is  under investigation.....

 

 Friday  January 13, 2006  Fire to Structure at  163 Judson Street  Fire in the  ceiling  of a  20 x 40 wood  frame residence.  Engines  2, 3, 1.  Rescue 2 and  the  Chief  Responded.  Alarm  was dispatched  at  22:18 pm

Saturday January  14, 2006  Engine 3  to  Stafford  Road  and  Montgomery  street  for  High  Tension  Electric   Wires  down  from  Storm,  Wires  arching and a serious  danger  11:07 AM

Our  Best  wishes  to Tiverton  Fire  Chief  Robert  D. Lloyd for a fast  recovery.  Chief  Lloyd was  struck  by a  drunk driver on  Route  1 in  South  Kingstown, RI the  evening of  January  13, 2006 the  Chief  was  returning Home   the  evening  of the  Judson Street Fire at  approximately  2:00 AM.  the  Chiefs  car  was  severly  hit  from the  rear, it  looks like  it  will be  totaled.

Sunday  January 22, 2006 at  about 2:30 AM  Engine 1, 2 and 3  responded to  Smoke in a  building at  43  Arrowhead  Drive. Cooking  Mishap...

Friday  February 3, 2006 at approx:  4:15 pm Engines 2, and  3  with  Rescue  2  responded to  a  Chimmney  Fire with extension to  the  roof  and  attic at  9  Birch  Street Companies  were on  scene over  one  hour  extinguishing  the  fire. Chief  Robert  D. Lloyd  put  the Fire  under  control at 5:25 pm

Monday  February 28, 2006 @ approximately 2:15 pm Engines 1,2,3 and  Chief Lloyd  responded to 27 Paul James Drive for a  Chimney Fire.

April & May have  been  very busy  with  brush  fires about  town....

 

May 4, 2006  at  approximately 8:30 am the  Tiverton  Fire  Department  responded to  a Motor Vehicle  Rollover on Route 177  both  Driver  and  passenger  had to be  extricated from the  Vehicle and  both  were  transported to the  Middle School Landing Field  for  Transport  by  MedFlights to  trauma  centers. Companies of Engine  1, 2, 3 and  Rescues  1, and  2 responded with   a  call back  of  off duty persosnnel  to man  the  Stations..Mutual Aid  was  also  used  from Fall River,  Westport, And Portsmouth
